Generally speaking lousy speakers have lousy cabinets, average speakers have average cabinets and hi-end speakers have thick, quality cabinets.
When a speaker is designed with thin, cheap cabinets it means everything in that cabinet is lousy too.
Go check out the net. People are selling audiophile quality cabinets for $200 to $500 each. Audiophiles care about quality cabinets, crossovers and drivers so you should too.

Take the Home Theater Challenge! Our QTR "Stereo Music" speakers provide the bass and quality to the Theater system that is missing in many 5.1 or 6.1 systems like Bose, JBL, Sony, Pioneer and Yamaha that use the approximately 2" full range drivers.
In stereo mode the competition uses 1 or 2, 2" or 2 1/2" full ranges with a Mini Subwoofer to play music while QTR uses two of our high quality music speakers. It's no contest. In theater mode the music speakers provide the low bass just like the mini subs do for the surround speakers.
So with the 2" surround systems the competition sells all you have are surround speakers. That's ok for watching movies but in stereo mode you have no music speakers. Your MP3's and CD's will sound unexciting.
If you shut off the Mini Sub, the 2" full ranges will sound terrible because they have no bass. The midrange voices even sound terrible. These things stink!
Midrange cones are usually 4" or 5" in size.
Cone tweeters 2" in size are famous for sounding bad. Human voices just don't sound good coming out of a 2" cone.
The only reason these designers went with 2" full ranges is to make the thin plastic cabinets smaller and delete the crossovers. (Less materials and cheaper shipping).
So go to your local store and do it! Shut off the Sub!
They have volume knobs so turn them down to off!
You can on the Sony, Yamaha, or JBL but not Bose.
Bose is on to you and won't be embarrassed.
Ask the sales person to hook the Bose up separately so you can hear it alone. They are full ranges, you can't hurt them. Go ahead! Hear it?
Now Bose is embarrassed. We win!
The truth is you should never listen to a speaker when other speakers are playing. It just isn't done. Audition all speakers separately and buy for sound, not gimmicks.
The all surround type of system isn't upgradeable because it's deficient with small mini subs, small volume plastic cabinets and no tweeters. They cut every corner.
All QTR speakers can pass the no Sub test with flying colors. Even the QTR surround speakers have the lower bassy voices that are completely lacking in the competition's mini surrounds. QTR surrounds all sound great with good bass and pleasing tones.
With a QTR Sapphire, Emerald etc. a real subwoofer can be added at a later date if you want even more bass.
Knowledgeable customers will appreciate the design flexibility and attention to detail.
The QTR Sapphire's etc. are 2" full range with Mini Sub killers and will destroy the competition using these systems. Hearing is believing. |
